Sexual Wellness

Sexual wellness requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence.


Characteristics of Sexual Wellness:

  • Having a level of comfortability in your expression of your gender and sexuality
  • Ability to use communication and consent when engaging in sexual activity

Achieve Sexual Wellness:

  • Get tested once a year to check if you have any STIs (sexually transmitted infections)
    • MSM (men who have sex with men) and those with multiple sexual partners
      should get tested every 3-6 months
  • Ask for consent with every partner you have
  • Use contraception to reduce risk of pregnancy and contraction of STIs


  1. Free condoms are located outside the Health Promotion Office at the Turner Center 212 or at
    the Student Health Services building

    • Come pick up female or male condoms anonymously
    •  Purchase condoms at the pharmacy at University Health Center
  2. Emergency contraception is available for purchase at the University Health Center pharmacy
  3. At-home pregnancy tests are available for purchase at the University Health Center pharmacy

The University of Mississippi Health Center provide STD testing for a fee. Contact the Health
Center at 662-925- 7274 to schedule an appointment.
The Department of Health Promotion provides HIV testing for free. Contact Health Promotion at
662-915- 3459 for an appointment.

Violence Prevention:
The Violence Prevention Office is dedicated to providing the University of Mississippi with a
safe environment for all students, staff and faculty. Using the Green Dot Strategy, the Violence
Prevention Office focuses on the following topics:

  1. Stalking
  2. Assault
  3. Predatory drugs
  4. Student Conduct Policies

  •  Referrals to gynecologists when indicated for management of abnormal pap smears

  •  Counseling on sexual activity and decision making for good health and wellness
